Hi! My name is Judi and I am a septuagenarian. A What? A septuagenarian! I have been one for seven years, but still can not easily admit it - let alone, say it out loud! Experts say it is not my fault; it is a genetic thing. It happens to everyone who is fortunate enough to have dodged a few bullets and has managed to eek out another decade. If my luck holds, and I work at it, I may one day turn into an Octogenarian! That really sounds old. But I'll take it. Let's say it together kids ... IT BEATS THE ALTERNATIVE!
In my 70 Plus years, I have been married and divorced, married and widowed, and am now married to a handsome, funny septuagenarian. We help each other in this pursuit of keeping it together (literally and figuratively), even if one of us has to "run" to the garage and search for the duct tape. We are partners in this fall/winter-season thing, and lean on one another (also literally and figuratively) to navigate all the previously unthinkable things we are encountering in our Achy Breaky Boomer years.
Between us, we have five kids and six grandkids, whom we love madly and are so grateful for and sometimes in awe of because they are so damned active and busy and traveling soooooo fast. How do they do it?
Did we really look like that once?
I am a retired schoolteacher and current free-lance writer. Although I have written for online companies and local newspapers over the years, this is my first Blog! "Why? you ask? BECAUSE I AM A SEPTUAGENARIAN AND I AM NOT TECH SAVVY AND I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO IT!
Still can't totally, but I'm plugging away ... just like we all do when there is a bit of a learning curve. It's a good work-out for the brain.
All this achy-breaky stuff is a lot! If you're going through it, you are not alone in this. There are 78.3 million of us - if you want to count the babies who are still in their sixties. We are boomer-strong and the FDA is madly trying to approve all sorts of new devices and procedures to keep up with our new challenges. New and exciting stuff is happening all the time. So, rock on Boomers, and stay tuned!
